Ketchikan, Alaska : “The Salmon Capital of the World”

Wow!!. When people said that this was a wet town I was not expecting this. Haha! Ketchikan, is known for many many names. They call themselves the wettest city in Alaska. The salmon capital of the world, as well as Alaska's first city. It's a very small fishing community. The rustic boardwalk that leads to the main town is usually wet and filled with tourists popping their head in and out of the brightly colored shops and buildings. When we pulled into port, it was raining and I decided to be an explorer and not grab an umbrella on our track out. Needless to say, we were not out there for very long. Haha

Originally, we were supposed to do one of the free excursions provided by the cruise. It was the rain-forest canoe..With the rain, we decided against it. But from what I've heard it's great and a lot of fun to do!. We ran into some of our shipmates later on in the afternoon and they actually stuck to the tour and did it. They said it was great to be in the most surreal nature setting you could be, in the pouring rain canoeing with all of your might across the water. We walked around the town, and went back to the ship. The town had tons to do, from fishing and museums to hiking and shopping.

This cute little town had NOT a single traffic light! Just crossing guards to help everyone cross the streets safely. This town is iconic and known for its salmon. If you take the main road to the bridge, you’ll see the iconic salmon statue sitting high above the river waters below.

Wandering on through the normal “tourist” jewelry stores on Creek Street, you’ll stumble among the local stores. We found salmon markets a plenty there. My boyfriend tried the sushi in the local place, "Asian Garden Sushi Bar"…. OK fish, but sadly, the fish was not cut correctly, had bones in it, and was just not the quality we were expecting.

It was raining so much, we had to run back to the ship to throw our clothes in the dryer for a little bit. While drying, we headed up to the pool deck, and got in the spa. Cause why not enjoy the pouring rain in Alaska in the spa?!

Once they were done drying, we headed back down to walk around the town a little more. Came across some beautiful stained glass on lamp posts. And even though the city was blanketed in clouds, the buildings had so much color to them.. We walked around for a little bit more before heading back for dinner. This little fisherman village is a MUST stop by while you’re in Alaska.. There's so much history and the people here are so friendly. So much to do, even in a town this small. Beautiful sights, a high recommend.

Hope you enjoyed!
